Shelby County Deputy Sheriff’s Association Applauds State Senator Brent Taylor’s Effort to Combat Crime in Memphis

Tennessee State Senator Brent Taylor’s (R-Memphis) “Make Memphis Matter” initiative has been applauded by the Shelby County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (SCDSA).

The SCDSA, which endorsed Taylor (pictured above) in his 2022 campaign for the Tennessee Senate, said the incumbent state senator “ran on a platform for tougher laws to combat the out of control crime in Memphis and Shelby County [and] hold its political leaders accountable to their oaths of office.”

“Our Association who makes up the men and women patrolling the streets of all Shelby County and have seen firsthand the problems we have in our laws and having accountability of those whose job it is to prosecute crimes know all too well that the system needs to be addressed,” SCDSA President Mark Lowe said.

“You can keep arresting those you violate the law, however if they’re not being held accountable for their actions the arrests are null void. We could not be more pleased with the job being done by Senator Brent Taylor, he has proven to us he is a true statesman as well as a man of his word and integrity,” Lowe added.

The association’s president applauded Taylor’s “Make Memphis Matter” initiative, which has included passing legislation to combat crime and kickstarting an effort to remove Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy from office.

“With his initiative (Make Memphis Matter), he has put the spotlight on the problems we have in our laws, and how crime is handled in Shelby County. There is no doubt that he is making the changes needed to make Memphis and Shelby County once again the shining light it once was, and a place that the citizens want to live and work,” Lowe said.

“Senator Taylor will always have the support of the men and women of the Shelby County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, we have seen he is truly for a better and safer Shelby County. Thank you for what you are doing,” Lowe added.
